In depth · For administrators, and whoever reports upwards
Who did that, and how are we doing
The audit log answers the first question with a row per action; the Insights page answers the second with panels from the plugins that own the numbers.
The log cannot drift from what happened
Every audited change appends an event in the same transaction as the change, so neither can exist without the other. Each event lands in the log exactly once, and the log outlives what it is about: deleting a user does not erase what they did.
Six audit rows, each with a timestamp, an actor, an action and the subject it happened to.
What the log records
| Area | Kinds recorded |
|---|---|
| Identity | Sign-ins, API tokens, workspace create and update. |
| People | Invites, members added and removed, role changes. |
| Content | Entries created, updated, published, deleted, restored. |
| Media | Asset and folder lifecycle. |
Reading the log needs activity:read, which only an administrator holds.
Reading it back
- Filter by anything on the row
- Search actor, action and subject, add a time range, and export the view as CSV.
- A record’s activity in its History
- An entry’s log rows sit between its versions in one timeline.
- The assistant is in here too
- An AI change is recorded as the person who asked for it, with the run behind it.
- Nothing goes missing quietly
- An event that fails to record is listed on the Activity page and can be retried.
- A dashboard built from plugins
- Content, media and localisation each contribute their own panels; you can add yours.
- Needs attention first
- Waiting to go live, gone quiet, waiting on review, missing alt text — each opens its records.
Questions
Can I prove who published something last March?
Yes. Filter by kind and date range and the row names the actor. What changed inside the entry is in version history.
Can I add my own panel?
Yes. A panel is a contribution to a named slot, and the built-in ones work the same way.
